Canadians to get grocery rebate payments
"in a few weeks": CRA

The federal government would be issuing the previously announced “grocery rebate” payments in “just a few weeks”, Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland announced. Canadians might be unsure about their eligibility for the Grocery Rebate or when the funds will show up in their bank accounts.

Payment Date

 

The Grocery Rebate will be issued on July 5, 2023

If you don’t receive the grocery rebate by the scheduled date, you can wait 10 business days before you contact CRA.

Who can get the payment ?

You will get the Grocery Rebate if you were entitled to receive the GST or HST credit for January 2023. Even if you have no income to report, you must file a tax return for 2021 in order to be eligible for the grocery rebate.

Eligibility Criteria ?

 

The GSTC is categorized by the government as providing helps to “low- and modest-income people and families. About 11 million Canadians with family incomes of $38,000 or less and individuals with incomes of $32,000 or less will automatically get the refund. The total amount estimated is $2.5 billion. The grocery refund will be sent to you along with your July GST Credit payment, so there is no need to apply. 

How much will you get ?

 

From January 2023, the grocery rebate will be double the amount of your GST/HST credit payment. Based on your family’s situation in January 2023 and your 2021 adjusted family net income, the amount is determined.

For a Single Person,

 

  • No Children : $234
  • With 1 child : $387
  • With 2 children : $467
  • With 3 children : $548
  • With 4 children : $628
 

For married/ Have a Common-law Partner

 
  • No Children : $306
